Plante vivace de 30-60 cm , à fibres radicales filiformes portant au sommet des renflements ovoïdes
Écologie : (répartition d'après la flore) Prés et bois, surtout calcaires, dans presque toute la France nul dans le Nord.
Répartition hors de France : Presque toute l'Europe ; Asie occidentale et boréale ; Algérie et Maroc.
* Les tubercules, d'un goût agréable, sont comestibles et astringents.

A rather slender, glabrous perennial with almost simple flowering stems 23-45 cm long, growing erect from a rosette of leaves and a tuberous rootstock.
